Week 22 of Milly's acting journey

On Monday 6th March, we started the day off with a new warm up game we haven't done together before called Cat and Mouse. Kelly had taught her youngsters at Page2Stage the game and decided to show us it which we all found very fun to do.  It taught us about listening and how important being attentive clearly is. If we didn't listen to the people who were running to someone else and we were the next to run but didn't realize, it would ruin the flow of the game and mess it up. After our warm-up game, we spent the rest of the day going through Connection's rehearsals and tried going right from the top, missing scene 1 so myself and Callum could focus on that in our own time to make it perfect, and right to the end. We paused rehearsal a few times to tweak certain parts, as Kelly was having new ideas all the time to make our characters more vulnerable and truer to their own selves. Overall, I felt the day was productive and I made sure to store all the new knowledge in my head ready for the week.

On Tuesday 7th, we learnt all about our new assignment that was all about practitioners that changed the way we act or had a significant impact in theatre. The assignment consisted of working in pairs or by yourself and designing both a PowerPoint and handout all about your chosen practitioner. Me and Millie Trodden paired up to work on the assignment as we knew we both had a great work ethic and enjoy creative tasks like designing our own handout. So, with our assignment in mind we went into the LRC and looked from first glance which practitioners we wanted to have a look at in order to choose who we would focus our assignment on. We knew we wanted to do a female practitioner and one we hadn't heard of before. In the end, we went with Viola Spolin who fascinated the both of us as she was essentially the inventor of improvisation. We spent the rest of the morning researching key facts about our practitioner and spent the afternoon doing further rehearsals for Connections. We were missing a few people as they were out helping do the prospectus pictures, so we had to substitute in some of the understudy cast which I loved working with them again since it felt like it had been such a long time. I worked with Henry as Zafer which was great, and we made it to the end from where we stopped yesterday.

On Wednesday 8th, the day was spent doing lots of different things. Part of the morning was spent taking pictures for the prospectus that will showcase a few of us to promote our course to young actors interested. The other half was spent having rehearsals for Connections. We thankfully had the theatre to ourselves, so it wasn't loud and didn't feel crowded. Me and Callum got to perform our scene 1, which was amazing to finally do infront of Kelly. What I found from our run-through is that we need to be more louder and clearer with our voices, as people all the way from the back should be able to hear. The afternoon was spent changing the set from it being stairs and a bridge to a flat stage into our Mr. Emree restaurant. I enjoyed with the transformation of the set as it made performing next week feel even more real. It also meant that our rehearsals from now on would be on the set. Helping with the prospectus was lots of fun too, as I hadn't been in a situation like that before and doing it with my friends was great.

On Thursday 9th, we spent the day spending time on our practitioner assignment as Kelly needed time with the Year 2's to focus on their show YOLO. I'm looking forward to seeing the show as from parts I've seen, it seems amazing. I was glad we spent the day on our practitioner as it allowed me and Millie to get lots done concerning it.
