Week 28 of Milly's acting journey
On Monday 24th April, we began the day by doing last minute preparations for our auditions which are the following day. I looked over my scene that I had chosen for Meg which is the moment she speaks with Mr Brooke, and then argues with Aunt March about her future. I felt this scene really shows Meg in her true self, as she is standing up for herself, the people she surrounds herself with and shes unapologetic for it all. I wrote my own monologue since that was a part of the audition, and I'm really proud of mine as I feel like I've picked key moments of Meg's life that are barely touched on and made them seen so that if it was performed for an audience, they would learn a lot more about Meg. The day also consisted of a live zoom call with Toby and the Team from Zest Theatre, where we finally were given the script for our show we will be performing early next year. There are songs included as well so it was interesting to see where they fitted in. The overall storyline, tells of a camp full of children and young adults who share their opinions, thoughts and feelings to hopefully show others that it's okay to do so. The target audience is y6's who are entering their new chapter of life in y7, so it goes through these characters tackling obstacles that act as metaphors for the play. I love the script, but there is definitely some changes that can be made like I feel that there is lots of characters, that I get too confused and lost with who I'm following. I spent the rest of the day making sure all of my knowledge for my audition was locked in my head, and I'm raring to show it.On Tuesday 25th, it was audition day. I have a whole blog post titled 'Little Women Audition! 25/04/23 ' that goes into detail how I felt, and what I felt went well and I would change. To summarise, the audition was obviously quite nerve-wracking when you're waiting to go in, but afterwards I felt very accomplished and proud in myself. I'm really hoping I get to play Meg or one of the inspiring characters from the play, as I found just acting in one small scene was exciting and I wanted to do it more. I did all I could do and now came waiting till the cast list day.
On Wednesday 26th, we began with the physical side of Little Women which meant one thing; ballroom dancing. In the books and the films, there is an iconic ballroom scene which includes Meg, Jo, Laurie and Mr Brooke and it is so important to the story line as it is when they all meet for the first time. Without it, our show would follow a very different course to the one we all would prefer to stick to. Tom, came in to help and Kadie was an amazing 'dance captain' as she went around helping those that were struggling. The dance routine was quite simple but I found timing to be quite tricky as if you counted wrong once it would mess up the whole thing for you and your partner, and if it was the show you would be seen so obviously messing up. I danced with a few boys who were Adam, Delroy and Connor, and they were very much not messing around, they were all involved and not acting silly. It was great to see everyone participating and having fun. I'm excited to do it again soon.
On Thursday 27th, we did some chemistry reads to end the audition process for Little Women. All of the girls who are auditioning came in earlier to go into groups and work on the scene where they are acting out. I was in a group with Emie, Emily Howard and Alayah and I found that we all complimented each other's characters. It was a fun scene and we made sure to go over it later on so that it would be perfect when it came to performing in front of Kelly and the class. Later on in the morning, a list of pairings was put on teams and I was paired with Taron where he was Mr. Brooke and I was Meg, it was the same scene that I performed in my solo audition. I hadn’t acted with Taron before, so it was a great chance to act with him for the first time and I felt we both did very well. We went over the scene lots and lots and agreed to be more touchy and not afraid to be affectionate, like hugging and touching each other's hands. When we performed it, we did just that and weren’t uncomfortable as we knew it was acting and to be a real piece, we would need to act like that. We also performed our sister's piece and got a big applause which said that we did a great job. I’m really pleased and proud of this week, as I’ve put my all in and just hope I’m able to be apart of this amazing play.
